About
Where the distance to a landfill, for internal and external refuse collection service providers, is too far to travel, they may make use of a transfer station or an Integrated Waste Management Facility to offload waste. The waste is then compacted into containers and transferred via rail or road to a landfill site.
Bellville Integrated Waste Management facility has a drop-off facility, for the disposal of both general and
household hazardous waste.
All general waste is accepted at the public drop-off facility on site. The waste is then compacted into closed containers and transported in bulk to
Vissershok Landfill at the end of each day.

- Cans and metal
- Clean builders' rubble
- Clean garden waste
- Garage waste (as part of household hazardous waste)
- Glass bottles
- Household hazardous waste
- Motor oil
- Paper and cardboard
- Plastic
Waste materials not accepted at the general drop-off:
Materials accepted at our hazardous waste facility (limited to 50kg per person per day):
- Asbestos waste material (limited to plant containers, gutters or old cement heaters)
- CFL (compact fluorescent lamps) and other discharge
- Chemical waste products (eg. air fresheners, all-purpose cleaners)
- E-waste
- Lamps
- Old paint and brushes
- Pesticide waste
- Swimming pool chemicals
- Used batteries
- Used oils
Materials not accepted at our hazardous waste facility:
- Any product contaminated by infectious bodily fluids
- Bulk, hazardous household waste from residents’ homes, offices or businesses
- Explosive and compressed waste (eg. gas cylinders)
- Medical waste (eg. blood-stained bandages and plasters, expired pharmaceuticals)
- Sanitary waste (eg. soiled disposable nappies and adult diapers)
